About the ITVCC
The International Turkish Van Cat Club (ITVCC) is a group of Turkish Van
breeders and fanciers from across the world who are dedicated to the
preservation of the natural van patterned cats of the eastern Anatolian region (currently,
Turkey). We work only with homozygous van patterned Turkish Van cats and
are not supportive of the use of short hairs, solid colored cats, or cats of
other breeds being used in the breeding of Turkish Van cats. While other colors
can be created through introduction of unknowns or other breeds, there is only
One True Turkish Van cat. The cat with the beautiful van pattern that was named
after the breed. We believe that a Van cat without a van pattern is not a Van!
The members of the ITVCC are supportive of the following goals.
Our Goals
- To work together to ensure the preservation of the Turkish Van cats (those
wonderful van patterned cats that are a part of Armenian and Kurdish folklore and that
were first established by Sonia Holliday and Laura Lushington as a distinct
breed of cat);
- To ensure that the true history of these cats is understood by breeders
and fanciers alike;
- To actively promote the breed across the world;
- To encourage and mentor new breeders interested in preserving the
integrity of the breed;
- To work collaboratively with breeders across the world;
- To serve as a resource for people wanting to learn more about the breed;
- To work only with Van Patterned cats;
- And to work collaboratively for the continued good health of the breed.
If you are supportive of these goals and agree to them; consider becoming a
member!
